Professional baseball and historical city

The Shirakabe area is a popular historical tourist destination. It is located near the Nagoya Dome, home to the Chunichi Dragons.
The “Cultural Path” sector used to be a castle town a long time ago, which was built by the Owari Tokugawa family. This area still has many historical spots where visitors can feel the prosperity of the past.

Nagoya Dome

This area is home to the professional baseball team, Chunichi Dragons with about 70 games being played annually. Their stadium provides one of the largest views of home base available among the teams belonging to the Central League, and visitors have the opportunity to really enjoy watching competitive games.
 
 

The Tokugawa Art Museum

Collection and display of heirlooms handed down to the Tokugawa family

The art museum opened in 1935, adjacent to Tokugawaen. In addition to the national treasure "The Tale of Genji", you can enjoy valuable collections of Daimyo tools and artworks that have been handed down within the Owari Tokugawa family for generations. There are over 10,000 collections, including 9 designated national treasures, 59 Important cultural properties, and 46 Important Art Objects. A famous multi-course restaurant, Hozentei is recommended and located at the corner of this site.
 
 

Shunkobako [sushi]

Shunkobako is a popular lunch menu at Hozentei restaurant. In addition to nine colorful seasonal small dishes, sushi and tempura are included.
 
 

KURONURI KONITO ODOSHIGUSOKU, the powerful armor painted black with navy blue threads

The armor worn by Yoshikatsu, the Owari Tokugawa family’s 14th generation during the first Choshu expedition in 1864 will be exhibited. The exhibition continues till Sun. March 29.
 
 

Tokugawaen

Stroll through the gardens and explore the beauty and nature of the four seasons.

You will see a Japanese style garden with pond situated at the house site of the Owari Tokugawa family. The garden is filled with the natural landscape of Japan. Visitors will enjoy the Peony flowers in the spring, fresh greens and Irises in the summer and autumn leaves in the fall.
The black gate called KUROMON and walls are certified and registered tangible cultural properties. There is also a restaurant with a view of the garden.
 
 

KENCHUJI Temple

The Owari Tokugawa Family’s Temple is a place where the successive feudal lords are buried.

This temple was built as the Owari Tokugawa family's temple by Mitsutomo to mourn his father Yoshinao, the 9th son of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
There is a mausoleum at the back of the main hall, where engravings of successive lords are enshrined. Many of the buildings are designated as cultural properties specifically for Aichi Prefecture or Nagoya City, etc.
 
 

YOSHIMITSU

Exquisite bracken rice cake that is drawing attention from all over the country

This traditional Japanese sweets shop has been loved for half a century since its establishment in 1964. The specialty is a bracken rice cake called WARABI MOCHI, using real bracken powder. An elegant taste wrapped with plenty of red beans made in Hokkaido and dusted with fine soy powder on the surface.
 
 

Traditional Architectures Preservation Districts: Shirakabe, Chikara, and Shumokucho streets

Walk through a retro residential area where some samurai residences remain.

In the Eastern area of Nagoya Castle, where the middle-class samurai used to live during the Edo period, there are many featured samurai residences and many modern buildings from the Taisho era to the early Showa era. The calm Chikaramachi street, Shirakabe street, and Shumokucho street are popular strolling spots.
