A row of ginkgo trees near Yusenji Temple

Beautiful golden ginkgo tunnel

In autumn, the entire town of Sobue-cho, Inazawa City is dyed in golden colors by the yellow leaves of the ginkgo trees. Every November, the Sobue Ginkgo Festival is held around Yusenji Temple and Sobue Ginnan Park. The large ginkgo tree that is over 300 years old on the temple grounds and the rows of ginkgo trees near the temple form a spectacular sight.

Otsuka Shokaiji Historical Park

About 11 minutes by car from Konomiya Station on the Meitetsu Nagoya Main Line

A famous hydrangea viewing spot where you can fully enjoy history and nature

This historical park was developed on the grounds of the historic Shokaiji Temple, which was founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) about 1,200 years ago. Many valuable cultural properties are preserved, such as the main hall and the Tahoto pagoda. Nagai recommends the beautiful scenery of 10,000 hydrangeas of about 90 varieties in full bloom. The Inazawa Hydrangea Festival is held every June, attracting a large number of visitors. The sight of the beautiful, colorful flowers soothes visitors’ eyes and hearts.

Kisogawa Sobue Green Park

About 10 minutes by car from Morikami Station on the Meitetsu Bisai Line

A popular park for families, with lots of playground equipment

The park is very popular with families because of its many large playground installations that can be used free of charge, including the “Adventure,” which resembles a large sailing ship, and a 70-meter-long roller slide. Visitors can play all day long, so bring a packed lunch and a leisure sheet for a picnic.

Very popular supermarket with a lineup of “eye-catching” prepared food

Yamahiko is a supermarket with nine stores in Aichi and Mie prefectures. Many customers come to the store even before it opens. Kishi told us the reason for its popularity, “Yamahiko is famous for a variety of prepared food (sozai) with strong visual impact, which you cannot find in other supermarkets.” The prepared food section is overwhelmingly large, with a wide variety of items such as rice balls full of ingredients and colorful boxed meals. Fresh foods other than prepared food also provide good value for money.

Matsuya-Choshun

Exquisite soft and fluffy Habutae-mochi from a long-established confectionery shop

Matsuya-Choshun is a long-established Japanese confectionery shop founded in 1935. The shop has a close relationship with Konomiya Shrine. Since its establishment, the shop has provided confections for monthly tea ceremonies held at the Shrine and for wedding takeaway gifts, as well as confections with the crest of the Shrine for prayer meetings. Ogawa's favorite is Habutae-mochi. The combination of the soft texture of the rice cake made from high quality glutinous rice and the refined red bean paste made from the finest Tanba Kasuga Dianagon azuki beans is exquisite.

This Japanese restaurant offers a creative menu that uses plenty of fresh seafood and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is crowded with customers from families to groups. Kobayashi says, “Every dish is delicious,” but her top recommendation is the sashimi. The fish and seafood served at the restaurant are purchased daily from the Hokubu Market, so their freshness is outstanding. Homemade crab cream croquettes and grilled beef sirloin skewers are also recommended.
